Established in 1993, we are proud to be an independent, not-for-profit organisation located in the heart of old Basel, Switzerland.
We provide the highest quality childcare and education for young children from the age of 3 months to the end of Primary School at 12 years old.
Our programme provides a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment for our children and promotes physical, social, emotional and academic development through exciting, engaging and challenging learning experiences appropriate to the children's age.
ELA Basel is the only English language international school to be awarded the Basel-Stadt Secondary Transition Agreement (Übertrittsvereinbarung Privatschule – Sekundarschule) between Private Schools and Public Secondary Schools in the city . This means that our graduating students can transfer directly into Swiss schools at the age of 12 on the basis of their school reports from ELA Basel, without having to sit entrance exams or other assessments. This prestigious agreement is based on Basel-Stadt's assessment of our excellent German language programme throughout the school and will be renewed again in 2023.

ELA Basel has its own kitchens, staff, and dining rooms. Our healthy and delicious menus are created with advice from a child nutritionist. Morning snack and a hot lunch are served daily for all children. Afternoon snack is provided for children in the extended day and after-school programme.
Our chef and his team ensure our children have healthy nutritious lunches which are cooked on the premises every day.
Care and pride is taken in preparation and presentation of snacks and lunches, and all of the children eat well. Dietary requirements and needs are catered for.
